The History of Seed to Fork
In 2018, Meg Cowden launched Seed to Fork blog. From 2018-2022, she shared in-depth knowledge about gardening in a cold climate and learned that her tips and tricks applied well beyond zone 4. An enthusiastic community of followers grew, many people drawn to her lyrical and approachable writing style. At the same time, her social media presence grew too, and she made numerous appearances podcasts and even the acclaimed PBS gardening show, Growing A Greener World, as a succession planting expert and gardening inspiration.
In March 2022, around the same time her first gardening book, Plant Grow Harvest Repeat was published, Meg launched The Modern Garden Guild (The MGG). This subscription put much of Meg’s blog content behind a paywall where she focused her energy and content to her paid customers, and expanded the kinds of posts she posted to include more recipes, how to videos, in-depth seasonal succession planting advice, and monthly Q&As.
This was done with a desire to decouple from social media and its dopamine hits and self-esteem deflation. After 3 years, Meg stands firmer than ever in her belief that we are not meant to consume information at the speed at which we currently are. That the jarring, viral videos that flood our feeds are fundamentally unhealthy for our nervous systems, and we should be reclaiming our attention.
The Blog is Back!
In March 2025, Seed to Fork relaunched as a more traditional blog. Meg decided to return to blogging after an intentional hiatus from social media in late 2024. Wanting to provide inspiration to those seeking it, missing the interactions with followers, and yearning for a new way to connect, this new focus gives Meg the independence from algorithms to produce content in a place that is fully accessible and not tied to large tech companies, while launching a private community forum where gardeners can talk to each other and Meg, an un-Facebook private group, if you will.
Meg will be using this new blog as a kind of old school instagram feed, aiming to post photos and flash essays most days of the week on the blog.
the new subscription
The new subscription launched in mid-March, 2025 includes much of the same content from the MGG, with added functionality.
Weekly videos are posted to the website on Saturdays, very similar to her cherished Instagram stories, but bundled by week. In this way, the pace is slower, on purpose. There’s no need to be checking apps multiple times a day.
Most weeks of the month, an additional piece of content is created just for subscribers: a monthly task list, biweekly sowing guides, garden guides or how to’s, and a recipe.
New is the ability to talk to each other as a community in our gardening forum. This will be a place of garden support where I guarantee friendships will be forged. I’ve had the privilege of talking to subscribers for the past 3 years, and now they finally get to see how amazing they ALL are. And together, it’s going to be such a wonderful corner of the internet that we all need right now.
